"There is a very extensive and beautiful prospect southwards from the far Pennines round to Morecambe Bay and Black Combe."
A.Wainwright

The wonderful ridge of Steel Knotts climbs above the beautiful valley of Martindale, until it reaches the slopes of Wether Hill on the main High Street ridge, the small rocky summit, known as Pikeawassa is a delightful summit with wonderful views.

The valley of Fuesdale, which Steel Knotts encloses too the east is a quiet secluded valley, and makes a good circular walk, well away from the busier higher summits.
