Maiden Moor climbs to the south of Catbells, continuing the ridge towards High Spy and Dale Head. From Catbells the ridge descends to Hause Gate before climbing the fine ridge south, above Black Crag to Bull Crag, probably the best viewpoint on the fell, before reaching the summit of Maiden Moor, a gentle grassy plateau.

The ridge continues south, gentle at first before climbing to Blea Crag and the long summit ridge of High Spy, a fine ridge walk.

The western flank of Maiden Moor descends steeply to the Newlands Valley, heavily mined over the years many mines date back to at least the Elizabethan times, when in 1564 the Mines Royal (Queen Elizabeth's mining company) employed expert German miners to work the copper.

Recently completed ascent of Snowdon via Crib Goch under the guidance of Rick. Conditions were far from ideal for the knife edge crossing with heavy rain, 50m visibility and some wind, but Rick exuded confidence and competence and gave our small party of 3 plenty of opportunity to turn back if we felt the challenge to be to risky for us to safely undertake. The weather improved as we summitted in the midst of the annual fell running race to the top of Snowdon from Llanberis. All in all a great day out despite the poor weather and well organised by Lake District Walker with good communication and expert guiding.
