"The north face of Lingmell and the great ravine of Piers Gill make as wild a scene as will be found anywhere."
A Wainwright

When the visitor to Wasdale Head looks up in search of Scafell Pike find that their view is blocked by the huge bulk of Lingmell, towering above the south side of the valley and hiding the higher ground beyond. There is much more to Lingmell than this steep face suggests though, the western side of the mountain gives a good grassy path to the summit rocks while the north face is a dramatic scene of crags and gullies, split by Piers Gill, the most dramatic gorge in the Lake District.

the views from the summit cairn are of particular interest, as well as the view over Wastwater and up towards Scafell Pike is probably the best view over Great Gable and across Wasdale to Pillar.
