The southern shoulder of Scafell descends, in stark contrast to the northern flank, gently, with steep crags to the east tio the fine rocky summit of Slight Side from where the gentle grassy slopes continue towards Boot and Eskdale, to the west lies Burnmoor Tarn.
The summit of Slight Side is a good viewpoint over the west coast with only Black Combe blocking the full panorama.
Slight Side makes a good route to Scafell from Boot, in the Eskdale Valley, where a circuit can be made returning either by Burnmoor Tarn or descending to Upper Eskdale.
