The lowly ridge of Rannerdale Knotts rises above Buttermere and Crummock Water, enclosing the picturesque valley of Rannerdale from the main valley, making a fine low ridge, connected to the foot of the Whiteless Pike ridge just above the village of Buttermere.

From Cinderdale Common we will follow the path climbing gently into the Rannerdale Valley, and follow the path through the fields of bluebells, crossing Squat Beck and climbing the slopes to the head of the valley climbing onto Low Bank, a grassy ridge leading to the summit of Rannerdale Knotts, a fine viewpoint over Crummock Water.

A good path descends the steep slope at the northern end of Rannerdale Knotts to descend to Hause Point, and the path back through the bluebells to Cinderdale Common.

Directions

From Keswick:
Follow the A66 west from Keswick, turning off the main road at Braithwaite, continue on this road past the Royal Oak and follow the road over Whinlatter Pass, follow the road through High Lorton and follow the signs to Buttermere, turning left at the cross road and then left again on the B5289, the road climbs a short hill to emerge from trees and cross a cattle grid, follow the road downhill until two car parks are seen to the left of the road, we will meet in the second car park, just befre the small copse of trees.

From Cockermouth:
Leave Cockermouth on the Lorton Road, opposite Sainsburys, and follow this road through Low Lorton following the signs to Buttermere, turning left on the B5289, pass Rannerdale Farm on the right hand side and after some trees a small car park will be seen to the right, we will meet here.

Bus Services

The bus stops about 100m along the lane from the meet point.

The 77/77a bus runs between Keswick and Buttermere over Honister Pass and Whinlatter during summer months (Easter to October Half Term).

Each participant is expected to bring suitable personal equipment for the event.
This should include the following:

We plan to walk whatever the weather, unless it is dangerous to do so.

Mountain weather can be a little unpredictable, but we do keep an eye on the forecasts leading up to walks, should the forecast mean that the walk is not possible then we will contact you as soon as we have the forecast and offer you the following options:
- A more suitable walk on the same date taking into consideration the weather conditions
- A transfer to the same walk on another date
- A full refund

Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.

However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.
