The broad expanse of high ground to the east of the Kirkstone Pass rises to a broad grassy summit. This high ground is known as Caudale Moor, with the highest point often known as Stony Cove Pike. Six ridges descend from the summit of Caudale Moor, two with separate summits, Wansfell to the south and Hartsop Dodd on the northern ridge.
The eastern ridge descends over Threshthwaite Mouth to Thornthwaite Crag linking Caudale Moor with the High Street range to the east.
The easiest ascent is from the summit of Kirkstone Pass where a good path leads up over St Raven's Edge. The several routes from the south, above the Troutbeck Valley offer many varied and interesting routes.
