Troutbeck Tongue

Grid Reference: NY 42233 06384
Height: 364 metres/1194 feet

"Although of very modest altitude, it has an attraction for the gentler pedestrian as a viewpoint for the valley, and makes an admirable short excursion in pleasant scenery from Windermere or Troutbeck or, by Skelghyll Woods, from Ambleside."
A.Wainwright

Troutbeck Tongue occupies the head of the Troutbeck Valley, a narrow ridge descending from the higher ground beyond it is surrounded on all sides by higher fells, only to the south does it provide a view of anything other than fellside. The view south is wonderful though, the Troutbeck Valley south frames the view over Windermere perfectly.

Troutbeck Tongue can be climbed either by the short but steep southern slope, a path climbs from Troutbeck Park to the summit, or from the northern shoulder where a longer but gentle slope climbs along the shoulder.
