"Barrow occupies an enviable position overlooking a scene as fair as any in the kingdom!" |
A Wainwright
|
The bracken covered ridge of Barrow rises above the village of Braithwaite in a similar shape to that of Catbells, across the Newlands Valley, a grassy spine surrounded by bracken covered slopes rising to a small neat summit.
The views from the summit of Barrow are almost equal to those from Catbells, the view across the valley to the Skiddaw Massif and across the Newlands Valley are spectacular.
Barrow makes a wonderful short walk from Braithwaite, the gentle climb up the grassy northern shoulder can be combined with a return by Barrow Door returning to Braithwaite either over Stool End or above Barrow Gill.
