"Those who cannot go a step further without a rest may settle down too enjoy what is really a very fine prospect."
A Wainwright

The ridge on the southern side of the Coledale Valley, above Braithwaite, climbs from Rowling End over Causey Pike and Scar Crags to descend to Sail Pass, climbing to the small grassy summit of Sail, before a narrow but easy rocky ridge climbs to the summit of Crag Hill.

Most walkers pass Sail without even stopping, the summit cairn is a short walk from the path, and is not the most impressive to look at, but the views to the east from the heathery summit are magnificent, across Newlands and Derwentwater to the Helvellyn range beyond.
