"Adacombe Hole, a perfect example of a hanging valley, quite the finest in Lakeland, and a remarkable specimen of natural sculpturing." |
A Wainwright
|
The ridge descending south from Crag Hill towards Buttermere crosses a broad grassy ridge, steeply flanked to the east by crags but descending more gently towards the west to Rannerdale Beck, this grassy wedge is Wandope Moss, and the highest point the grassy cairned summit at it's western edge is Wandope.
Below the eastern flank of the mountain the land drops to Addacomb Hole, a wonderful hanging valley draining into Addacombe Beck.
Southwest of the summit a large cairn can be found on Thirdgill Head Man, this marks the path descending over Saddle Gate to Whiteless Pike.
The main path between Whiteless Pike and Grasmoor passes along the western side of the ridge, away from the summit of Wandope, most follow this path, ignoring the summit of Wandope, a real shame as the views from the grassy summit are magnificent.
