Great Calva
Grid Reference: | NY 29089 31188 |

"It occupies a splendid position overlooking the broad depression of Skiddaw Forest, with which it seems to be inseparably associated, more so even than Skiddaw itself." |
A. Wainwright
|
The conical summit of Great Calva is prominent on the skyline from the south, when driving north from Dunmail Raise towards Keswick, Great Calva is framed perfectly between the flanks of Skiddaw and Blencathra.
The view from the rocky summit of Great Calva to the south is splendid, the panorama between Helvellyn and Great Gable with Bowfell and the Scafell range between is neatly framed by the slopes of Skiddaw and Blencathra.
To the north grassy ridges continue to Knott, the highest of the Back O'Skiddaw fells, while to the south steep slopes descend towards Skiddaw House and Dash Falls.
