Great Cockup

Grid Reference: NY 27336 33311
Height: 526 metres/1726 feet

"The undisputed monarch in this picture is Skiddaw, rising magnificently nearby in the south."
A. Wainwright

Great Cockup is the most westerly of the Uldale Fells, and as such has a wonderful unrestricted view to the west and north, over the Solway Coast to Scotland. The gentle bracken and heather covered slopes have few paths, but offer easy walking well away from the crowds to the south.

An easy route to the summit can be found from Orthwaite over Orthwaite Bank following the western shoulder of the fell, although when the bracken is high it is sometimes easier to follow the track past Brockle Crag and making a more direct ascent towards the summit.
