Great Sca Fell

Grid Reference: NY 29135 33898
Height: 651 metres/2136 feet

"Great Sca Fell is as it was before the miners came, a peaceful and undisturbed sheep pasture - and a quiet sanctuary in a world becoming discordant and noisy, where natural sanctuaries are shrinking fast yet were never in greater need."
A. Wainwright

Three ridges climb from the Uldale Fells, meeting at the summit of Great Sca Fell, to the west Great Cockup rises over Meal Fell while to the north two ridges descend over Little Sca Fell, to the northwest over Lowthwaite Fell to Longlands Fell and the northern ridge culminating in Brae Fell before descending north to the foothills of Greenhead and Caldbeck.

The eastern flank of Great Sca Fell descend to Roughten Gill, once heavily mined the valley is now returning to nature, the derelict mine workings that scatter the slopes make an interesting route for those interested in the mining heritage of the Lake District.

To the south Great Sca Fell gentle grass and heather clad slopes climb to the summit of Knott, the highest of the Back O'Skiddaw fells.
