Height: | 715 metres/2346 feet |
"Lonscale Fell, a graceful and gentle curve against the sky, ends very abruptly in a sharp peak whence the ground falls away steeply to the deep narrow valley of Glenderaterra Beck; beyond rises Blencathra." |
A. Wainwright
|
The southern flank of Skiddaw descends over wonderful subsidiary summit of Skiddaw Little Man, where to the south east gentle slopes descend over Jenkin Hill to the summit of Lonscale Fell. The southern aspect of Lonscale Fell descends gently, heather on the upper slopes giving way to bracken towards Whit Beck.
The Eastern flank of Lonscale Fell is very different, steep crags drop down to the Glenderaterra Beck, once heavily mined. The wonderful northern ridge of Burnt Horse descends above the crags towards Skiddaw House and the footpath below Lonscale Crags.
the view from the summit is wonderful, Skiddaw and Blencathra dominate the skyline to the west and east respectively but to the south the view is magnificent, particularly of the Helvellyn range and Thirlmere.
