"Souther Fell...occupies an important position as a cornerstone of the Northern Fells, having an extensive view out of proportion to it's modest height."
A.Wainwright

Souther Fell is the easternmost outpost of the Northern Fell of the Lake District, from here gentle ground descends to the Eden Valley. This grassy ridge offer magnificent views both east over the Eden Valley to the Pennines and west over the Bannerdale Crags to Blencathra beyond.

The eastern end of the grassy Souther Fell ridge descends to the village of Mungrisdale from where a good circuit of the fells around Bannerdale can be made, as well as an ascent of Blencathra.
