"As seen on the approach from Bassenthwaite this slender pyramid is one of the simplest yet finest mountain forms in Lakeland."
A. Wainwright

The ridge descending from the west of Skiddaw crosses Carl Side and Long Side before terminating in Ullock Pike, a fine conical summit at the end of the slender ridge, from here the ridge tapers down towards Bassenthwaite.

Ullock Pike and the ridge beyond offers the best route to the summit of Skiddaw, good views over Bassenthwaite Lake and the Solway Coast on the ascent from High Side are replaced when the summit is reached with a stunning view south over Derwentwater to Borrowdale and the high fells beyond.
