"No mountain in Lakeland, not even Great Gable nor Blencathra nor the Langdale Pikes, can show a grander front than Whin Rigg."
A Wainwright

High above the Wasdale Screes lie the summits of Illgill Head and Whin Rigg, a wonderful ridge with spectacular views throughout.

The northern flank of the ridge drops down over the famous Wasdale Screes to Wastwater and the Wasdale Valley, to the south the slope descends gently to the picturesque and secluded valley of Mitredale.

Throughout the length of the path between Whin Rigg and Illgill Head the ever changing views down to Wastwater are remarkable as are the views up towards the head of the Wasdale Valley and the high fells surrounding Wasdale Head.
