“A lovely name for a lovely fell: Silver How is delightful”
A Wainwright
The wonderful ridge of Silver How divides the Vale of Grasmere and the Langdale Valley, it's rambling rocky ridge descends from High Raise and Blea Rigg over Silver How before descending further towards Ambleside over Loughrigg Fell.
This route takes in much of the wonders of this delightful ridge, climbing above the village of Elterwater combining wonderful views with stunning scenery and good walking.
“It is the rough slopes that delight the eye, for the intermingling of crag and conifer, juniper and bracken, is landscape artistry at it's best”
A Wainwright
From Elterwater we will climb above High Close onto the main ridge by Dow Bank following the ridge over Spedding Crag and climbing to the summit of Silver How.
The views from the summit over Grasmere and Rydal Water are spectacular, from the summit of Silver How we will continue north west along the ridge to Swinescar Pike from where we will descend by the wonderful Megs Gill and it's waterfalls to Chapel Stile and back along the Great Langdale Beck to Elterwater.
