“It has all the markings of a great mountain”
A Wainwright
An easy way to ascend Ullscarf, the most central fell in the Lake District and a great viewpoint over much of Lakeland.
“This, although a natural and obvious line of approach, passes through territory little frequented by walkers”
A Wainwright
From Watendlath Farm we will follow the bridleway climbing above Bleatarn Gill by Robinbank Crag. The steady climb takes us above Blea Tarn to meet the fenceline along the ridge. Here we turn south following the fenceline as it climbs by Standing Crag eventually to the grassy summit of Ullscarf.
From Ullscarf we follow the fence to the north turning off to follow the ridge over Coldbarrow Fell, the heathery northern ridge of Ullscarf. High Saddle and Low Saddle are crossed before the descent steepens a little taking us down towards Dock Tarn.
From Dock Tarn we will take the path to the summit of Great Crag.
The path back to Watendlath from Great Crag is a little boggy underfoot in places but we're soon over this and back into Watendlath.
Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above.
