The wonderful valley of Wythop, along with the two fells that enclose it, Sale Fell and Ling Fell, a circuit of these fells and exploration of the Wythop Valley makes an enjoyable shorter days walking.
The two fells offer ever changing views of the surrounding countryside, being on the north western edge of the Lake District the offer a good view over the Solway Coast to Scotland.
From the eastern slopes of Sale Fell good views of Skiddaw and Bassenthwate Lake will be seen to best advantage.
Summits included on this route:
Sale Fell359 metres / 1178 feet
Ling Fell373 metres / 1224 feet
From Brumston Bridge in the Wythop Valley we will climb the western slopes of Sale Fell, above Dodd Crag to the grassy slopes of Sale Fell and up to the summit.
A walk east along the grassy summit of Sale Fell brings us over Rivings to Lothwaite with it's dramatic views east over Wythop Woods to Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite Lake.
A short descent south will bring us down to the head of the Wythop Valley. We will follow the track west to Chapel Wood and the remains of the ruined Wythop Church near Kelswick. A short walk across the valley will bring us to the Old Scales track which we will follow to the farm of Eskin.
A path leads through a gate at Eskin onto the lower slopes of Ling Fell, we will follow the Corpse Road, through gorse and heather covered slopes to climb to the scenic summit of Ling Fell.
A short descent south or east from Ling Fell will bring us down onto the track returning to the Wythop Valley and the short walk back to Brumstone Bridge.
Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above.

What happens if the weather is bad?
We plan to walk whatever the weather, unless it is dangerous to do so.
Mountain weather can be a little unpredictable, but we do keep an eye on the forecasts leading up to walks, should the forecast mean that the walk is not possible then we will contact you as soon as we have the forecast and offer you the following options:
Are dogs allowed on this walk?
Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.
However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.
