A wonderful half days walk over rambling fells scattered with rocky outcrops and tarns.
The north south ridge of High Rigg climbs from the north of Thirlmere with a path weaving along the main ridge to eventually reach the summit of High Rigg at the northern end of the ridge, the ever changing views are splendid throughout with great views over Thirlmere from the southern end of the ridge and one of the best views of Blencathra from the summit at the northern end of the ridge.
Summits included on this route:
High Rigg357 metres / 1171 feet
The rote starts at Legburthwaite, at the southern end of St John's In The Vale from where we will climb the southern end of the High Rigg ridge, first over the summit of Wren Crag then along Long Band.
The rambling path visits many of the tarns either side of Moss Crag before eventually reaching the summit of High Rigg, a great viewpoint over Blencathra to the north.
From High Rigg we will descend north to the St John's Church, a remote and pretty church on the fellside above the valley, from here we will follow the paths back along the valley by Sosgill back to Legburthwaite.
Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above.

What happens if the weather is bad?
We plan to walk whatever the weather, unless it is dangerous to do so.
Mountain weather can be a little unpredictable, but we do keep an eye on the forecasts leading up to walks, should the forecast mean that the walk is not possible then we will contact you as soon as we have the forecast and offer you the following options:
Are dogs allowed on this walk?
Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.
However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.
