- High Rigg & St John's in the Vale
A great lower level ridge with great views over Thirlmere to the south and Skiddaw and Blencathra to the north. A lovely ridge covered in rocky summits and tarns which forms a low lying north to south ridge, an enjoyable half day walk.
Summits included on this route:
High Rigg357 metres / 1171 feet
A wonderful rambling ridge, we climb the southern tip of High Rigg and follow the ridge north to descend to St John's Church before retuning back to our start point along St John's in the Vale.
From the southern tip of the ridge we climb north over Wren Crag, already the views south over Thirlmere are great but as we climb higher they become more expansive with Helvellyn, Castle Rock and Steel Fell prominent.
From Wren Crag the ridge continues north, crossing Long Band and Moss Crag before reaching the summit of High Rigg, a brilliant viewpoint of the northern fells with some of the better views over both Skiddaw and Blencathra. A short descent from the summit of High Rigg brings us down to St John's Church, a pretty church that is well worth a look in the door as we pass.
A short walk down the lane from the church brings us to the start of the bridleway back towards Legburthwaite, skirting around the foot of the fellside, just above the intake wall with good views over St John's in the Vale and the craggy western flank of Clough Head and the Dodds.
Each participant will be required to bring suitable equipment for their chosen event, please see Kit List tab above.

We do not have a set minimum age for this event, however, you know your child best, therefore please bear in mind this is an open event of varying ages, if you are not confident your child can complete this event then hiring a private guide could be a more suitable option.
As this is an open event all under 18's must be accompanied by an adult.

We plan to walk whatever the weather, unless it is dangerous to do so.
Mountain weather can be a little unpredictable, but we do keep an eye on the forecasts leading up to walks, should the forecast mean that the walk is not possible then we will contact you as soon as we have the forecast and offer you the following options:
- A more suitable walk on the same date taking into consideration the weather conditions
- A transfer to the same walk on another date
- A full refund

Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.
However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.
