“this is one of the pleasantest short climbs in Lakeland”
A Wainwright
The craggy heather covered slopes to the north of Glenridding make an enjoyable shorter days walk, stunning views over Ullswater are the reward for anyone who climbs to the summits of Glenridding Dodd and Sheffield Pike.
The descent through the hidden wooded valley of Glencoyne, by Seldom Seen is a delight.
“On a sunny day in August the summit is a delectable place. It is richly clothed with heather, and larches almost reach the top of the north side”
A Wainwright
From Glenridding we will climb north to join the ridge above Blaes Crag, from where a short climb will bring us to the picturesque summit of Glenridding Dodd.
the ridge west from Glenridding Dodd climbs good paths over rough ground to the subsidiary summit but wonderful viewpoint of Heron Pike before climbing to the true summit of Sheffield Pike.
From the summit of Sheffield Pike we will descend west to Nick Head where a good path will drop down into the Glencoyne Valley, through the beautiful Glencoyne Wood and the Ullswater lakeshore path back to Glenridding.

Sheffield Pike and Glenfridding Dodd Review by Robina
Hello John
I should like to thank you again for the walk last Wednesday. It would have been quite reasonable to have cancelled it in the circumstances. I enjoyed it very much, wonderful views for not too much effort. I managed to complete the walk from Martindale, ascending Steel Knotts from Steel End onto Pikeawassa and returning past St. Martin's Church. It was a really quick drive back to Newcastle from Pooley Bridge. Hope to walk with your company again soon. (Posted on 28/09/2017)
