| "If a visitor to Lakeland has only two or three hours to spare, poor fellow, yet desperately wants to reach a summit and take back an enduring memory of the beauty and atmosphere of the district....let him climb Castle Crag." |

A Wainwright
|
Castle Crag is the lowest of Wainwright's Lakeland Fells and thee only summit below 1000ft. The summit offers a wonderful view over the Borrowdale Valley and across Derwentwater to Keswick and Skiddaw.
A war memorial on the summit of Castle Crag remembers those from the Borrowdale Valley who died in the First World War and is the setting for a remembrance service every year.
Another claim to fame of Castle Crag is that it was home to Millican Dalton, the self confessed Professor of Adventure who lived in a cave on the fellside during the summer months between the 1920's and 40's and was one of the early guides to the area.
