The Coniston Fells extend in across four main ridges, all ridges originating from Swirl How, the hub of the Coniston Fells and a wonderful summit. To the north the land drops steeply to Greenburn, to the south east dropping to Levers Water and to the south west more gently towards Seathwaite Tarn.

A subsidiary summit, Great How Crags offers an even better viewpoint over Levers Water and across the mine workings above the Coppermines Valley below. Good scrambling will be found above Levers Water climbing the ridges below Great How Crags.
