- Snowdon by Crib Goch
A wonderful route climbing the highest mountain in Wales, taking in the infamous Crib Goch ridge, the fine narrow ridge above Pen-y-pass.
Why not let our fully qualified instructors take the pressure out of this classic Welsh mountaineering route letting you enjoy your day to the fullest.
Summits included on this route:
Crib Goch923 metres / 3028 feet
Garnedd Ugain1065 metres / 3494 feet
Snowdon1085 metres / 3560 feet
Y Lliwedd898 metres / 2946 feet
From the Pen-y-Pass we will climb the start of the PYG track, turning off the over used path at Bwlch y Moch and climbing onto the Crib Goch ridge.
We will traverse the Crib Goch ridge from east to west and climb to the summit of Garnedd Ugain from where an easy path will take us around the crest of the ridge above Glasslyn to the summit of Snowdon and the modern summit cafe.
From the summit of Snowdon we will descend to the south east, descending above Llyn Llydaw to the twin summits of Y Lliwedd, following this fine ridge as it curves to the north and descends to the shores of Llyn Llydaw and the Miners Track back to the Pen-y-pass.
Weather conditions on Snowdon can vary drastically from day to day and Crib Goch is an exposed route, should a crossing of the ridge not be appropriate for the conditions on the day your instructor will adjust the route to suit.

Snowdon via Crib Goch Review by Mike CLAYDON
Overall Experience Recently completed ascent of Snowdon via Crib Goch under the guidance of Rick. Conditions were far from ideal for the knife edge crossing with heavy rain, 50m visibility and some wind, but Rick exuded confidence and competence and gave our small party of 3 plenty of opportunity to turn back if we felt the challenge to be to risky for us to safely undertake. The weather improved as we summitted in the midst of the annual fell running race to the top of Snowdon from Llanberis. All in all a great day out despite the poor weather and well organised by Lake District Walker with good communication and expert guiding. (Posted on 27/07/2024)

Snowdon Horseshoe Review by Anne
Overall Experience Had a great experience doing this walking route with a lovely group of people and knowledgeable guide, Alastair. Lots of scrambling involved here but worth the effort and encouraged by all in the group. (Posted on 25/06/2018)

Crib Coch Review by Frank
Overall Experience I really just had to write and let you know how much I thoroughly enjoyed the Snowdon Horseshoe walk last Saturday. The last time I attempted Crib Goch two years ago the weather was dreadful and we backed off, but last Saturday conditions were perfect.
I particularly wanted you to pass on my thanks to Owen for leading this walk so well. Apart from him pointing the way I didn't find any of the scrambling difficult and enjoyed every minute. He is a thoroughly nice chap, knowledgeable and easy to talk to and get along with. I would really hope that I can walk / scramble with him again sometime (and your good self of course). We do not have a set minimum age for this event, however, you know your child best, therefore please bear in mind this is an open event of varying ages, if you are not confident your child can complete this event then hiring a private guide could be a more suitable option.
As this is an open event all under 18's must be accompanied by an adult.
Question:
What happens if the weather is bad?

We plan to walk whatever the weather, unless it is dangerous to do so.
Mountain weather can be a little unpredictable, but we do keep an eye on the forecasts leading up to walks, should the forecast mean that the walk is not possible then we will contact you as soon as we have the forecast and offer you the following options:
- A more suitable walk on the same date taking into consideration the weather conditions
- A transfer to the same walk on another date
- A full refund
Question:
Are dogs allowed on this walk?
Answers:

Yes, dogs are allowed on all our walks.
However we do cross farmland and common land where animals will be grazing, there will be large sections of the walk, if not all, where dogs will be required to be on a lead.
There are sections of this walk across rough ground and boulders and as such this walk may not be suitable for all dogs.
